Infrared Camera for Restoration Lab

Thanks to member and donor contributions, investigators at the Prado Museum Restoration Laboratory are now using the Apollo infrared camera donated by American Friends, with the latest technology for infrared analysis of artwork.
Infrared images provide vital information about the underdrawing of a painting, below the visible surface, revealing details about the artist's process or even modifications. This information helps determine the best measures for conservation for each work. Many exciting discoveries have already been made in its first few months of use.
